IMMERSION TRAINING FOR TEACHERS OF FRENCH

Tahiti Professional Immersion (27 septembre – 6 octobre 2025)

Thirteen teachers of French from all six states of Australia and the Capital Territory took part during their school break in the first FATFA French teacher immersion program in
collaboration with the University of French Polynesia. This tour was developed by teachers for teachers.

During their stay the group attended classes on the University campus and learned about Polynesian culture, history and politics. All classes were delivered in French by specialists in their field. Participants also learned Tahitian dance (‘ori Tahiti) and brushed up their French language skills by attending language classes on campus.

Cultural and language immersion continued outside class time, the group visited two secondary schools in Papeete (one middle school and one lycée) as well as the Assemblée Térritoriale, the Musée des îles and a number of key natural features in Tahiti and Moorea.

We would like to thank all the wonderful people in Australia and Tahiti who were involved in making the program such a success. The FATFA also wishes to acknowledge the wonderful collaboration with the University of French Polynesia and thank the French Embassy in Canberra for their support.

We are hoping that the immersion program will continue to be offered in the future. For more information, please contact FATFA: fatfapresident@gmail.com
